The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) is seeking candidates for consideration as an Independent Trustee to be appointed to the governing Board of Trustees of the ETFO Employee Life and Health Trust (ELHT).
Responsibilities of ETFO ELHT Trustees
ETFO ELHT Trustees are responsible for the administration of the ETFO ELHT Fund. The Board of Trustees is responsible for the operational and financial sustainability of the Trust. The Board administers the Fund in accordance with the express powers given to it by the ETFO ELHT Trust Agreement and ELHT Plans.
Qualifications of the Independent Trustee
In accordance with the ETFO Employee Life and Heath Trust Agreement and Declaration of Trust, the Independent Trustee must:
- be accredited from one of the following fields: actuarial science, law, accounting or be a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist;
- have demonstrated experience with employee benefit plans; and
- not have a systemic conflict of interest (such as personal relationships, legal or financial relationships, etc.).
In addition, the Independent Trustee must:
- be a resident of Canada;
- be at least eighteen (18) years of age;
- not be found under the Substitute Decisions Act or under the Mental Health Act to be incapable of managing property or have been found to be incapable by a court in Canada or elsewhere; and
- not be an undischarged bankrupt.
The successful candidate will be appointed to serve for a three-year term, effective September 1, 2025. The ELHT Board of Trustees meets at least four times a year. The Independent Trustee is eligible for compensation as well as the reimbursement of expenses, as set out in the Trust Agreement, for the performance of their duties.
