Director of Operations

The NFL Player Benefits (NFLPB) office located in Baltimore, MD is currently recruiting for an exciting opportunity as a Director of Operations (DO) in employee benefits administration.

Since 1978, NFLPB has administered benefits for active and former NFL Players. The NFLPB empowers players to take advantage of the benefits earned during their NFL careers. Resources, including a website and mobile app, help Players understand the scope of their benefits and actively manage their accounts.

We seek a results driven DO to lead, direct, and oversee the day to day activities of their employee benefits administration practice, retirement benefit operations, claims management operations, as well as spearheading performance improvement initiatives.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes operational standards, formulates business plans and strategic initiatives, prioritizes resources and planning, and evaluates operational, business, and participant service requirements, along with associated activities.
  • Creates, implements, and revises policies, procedures, programs, and workflows to align with the objectives set by the Executive Director.
  • Ensures that operations adhere to relevant laws, regulatory standards, benefit plan provisions, and organizational policies and procedures. Interprets and executes policies in compliance with ERISA, HIPAA, DOL, IRS regulations, Plan documents, Summary Plan Descriptions, and other governing rules.
  • Promotes continuous improvement initiatives to refine operational processes and boost productivity. Tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess operational success and make informed, data-driven decisions.
  • Offers expert guidance to staff on benefit plan regulations, policies, and provisions.
  • Prepares and submits regular, detailed reports for the Executive Director regarding the operations and activities of various business units, including Medical Claims/Health Benefits, Participant Services, and Retirement Benefits.
  • Oversees three direct reports at the Manager level; provides developmental and performance feedback, conducts performance reviews, and fulfills associated leadership, management, and supervisory responsibilities as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of analyzing key processes, defining and updating procedures, and continuously implementing improvements to enhance workflow efficiency while ensuring quality standards are met. The role requires outstanding organizational, communication, and leadership skills and the ability to implement new technologies and innovative solutions to administer the benefit plans accurately and efficiently.

We seek individuals with extensive experience in people management, team development, a solid understanding of ERISA/HIPAA regulations, and best practices in benefits claims processing and benefits administration.

This opportunity will be fully on site in our Baltimore, MD office with ability to work a hybrid schedule after several months of onboarding and assimilation. We seek local candidates, or those willing to relocate on their own for this opportunity.

This position offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary between $145 – 185k, comprehensive benefits, a 401(k) plan, generous paid time off, and opportunities for long-term career growth.
