The Position:
The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) is seeking a motivated and hardworking collections coordinator to assist the in-house attorney dedicated to supporting the Central Collections Unit’s efforts to collect the fringe benefit contributions and other amounts owed by delinquent employers pursuant to collective bargaining agreements. Through these efforts, the Central Collections Unit (CCU) works to ensure that union members and their beneficiaries receive the pension and other benefits to which they are entitled.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drafting correspondence to delinquent employers and others
  • Communicating with delinquent employers by telephone and email to obtain payment of the amounts due or to assist with the negotiations of an acceptable payment plan
  • Working closely with in-house Collections Counsel, outside counsel, and Fund investigators in CCU to determine the best means of pursuing delinquent employers
  • Gathering the information needed by in-house Collections Counsel and outside counsel to file federal court lawsuits against delinquent employers
  • Using Microsoft Excel to calculate and track the interest, liquidated damages, and other amounts owed by delinquent employers and collected by CCU
  • Drafting memoranda of understanding memorializing settlement agreements and payment plans with delinquent employers
  • Reviewing fringe benefit remittance reports, payroll documents, check ledgers, collective bargaining agreements, and other documents to confirm the amounts owed by delinquent employers
  • Communicating with auditors, local union officers and business agents, and outside counsel regarding the amounts owed by delinquent employers
  • Monitoring and enforcing post-settlement and post-judgement payments plans entered with delinquent employers
  • Editing monthly reports presented by Collections Counsel to the International Pension Fund and International Health Fund
  • Assisting in-house Collections Counsel with the preparation of written reports and PowerPoint presentations to the Director of CCU and the Trustees of the Pension & Health Funds
  • Reviewing and preparing for payment invoices received from outside counsel and service providers
  • Preparing and distributing internal meeting agendas
  • Working on special projects/research as needed

Skills & Other Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks and complete them in a timely manner with minimal supervision
  • Attention to detail and ability to determine the most efficient manner of keeping numerous matters organized and progressing toward resolution
  • Strong computer skills (including experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel) and familiarity with documents management systems

Salary Range: $70,000-$75,000
Schedule: Monday to Friday with one telework day a week most weeks
