Benefits Manager

Mid-size law firm seeks experienced Benefits Manager. This role will be pivotal in implementing and managing employee benefits and retirement programs to support partners and employees. This role requires an in-depth understanding of benefits administration, time off and leave programs, project and vendor management, and compliance, along with the ability to plan and communicate health, welfare, wellness, and retirement programs.

  • Manages, implements, and administers well-crafted benefit programs and initiatives that support leaders and various groups of benefit-eligible partners and employees.
  • Recommends changes to plan design and administration that align with organizational objectives.
  • Manages leave programs including disability, FMLA, Parental (Bonding) leaves, Paid Family Leave, Workers’ Compensation, and state sick leave.
  • Manages benefit vendors to promote effective benefits delivery, including implementing plan design changes, resolving operational issues, monitoring reporting and adherence of service-level agreements.
  • Responds to and resolves elevated benefit issues or concerns of partners and employees, using relationships with broker and vendors to obtain and a quick and appropriate resolution or response.
  • Manages the annual open enrollment process including, but not limited to, updating HRIS (UKG Pro) system with plan and rule changes, coordinating with consultants and vendors on data feeds and required documentation, originating virtual and/or onsite benefit fairs, and developing related communications
  • Develops metrics and benchmarking to measure the effectiveness of various benefit processes and programs.
  • Administers the firm’s Well-Being Program.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with HRIS Analyst and external vendors to ensure system and data integrations are developed and enhanced to ensure effective user experiences.
  • Utilizes UKG Pro system to its maximum capacity in terms of communicating and administering benefit programs electronically.
  • Ensures benefit plans, programs, and policies remain in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements; remains abreast of legal and regulatory developments and industry best practices.
  • Administers the 401(k) Program, including coordination with auditors on the annual 5500 filing and coordinate with vendor on Non-Discrimination mid-year and year-end testing.
  • Provides support in the administration of the Cash Balance Defined Benefit Plan and Partner Compensation process.
  • Supports effective communication strategies that drive engagement and educates partners and employees about firm benefits programs.
  • Manages the collection and reporting of all required employment and benefit data under the Affordable Care Act and other federal reporting requirements

EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 8+ years of progressively responsible employee benefits experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience; CEBS certification a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of employee health, disability, wellness, and retirement programs and plans, including processes, procedures, and benefit contract language.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required; familiarity with UKG or other HRIS systems required;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, strong communications skills with an emphasis on customer service, and attention to detail are a must;
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and critical thinking skills;
  • Exceptional communication skills, and able to demonstrate credibility to key stakeholders in both written and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending affecting employee benefit and time off programs, retirement plans, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, ACA, Section 125, Workers’ Compensation, and Secure 2.0.
